Biographer Kitty Kelley says that race is an omnipresent subject in her book, "Oprah: A Biography." Kelley tells us that Oprah says she transcends race and this may indeed be true. Oprah has endeared herself to all of America. Kelley says, "Oprah grew up adoring celebrities and developed a crush on Diana Ross and, later, on Tina Turner...[Oprah] began to recreate her own family [with various African American celebrities]."

I admire Oprah. Period. Years ago one of my husband's female cousins was putting Oprah down and scoffing at her and I was angry and disgusted. Oprah was a poor, black, abused, fat, female in a time in the world when that wasn't a recipe for success but she overcame numerous barriers and succeeded on a mammoth scale so she is a pioneer, heroine and trailblazer not to mention inspriration. God blessed her with many gifts.
