Why I Take Prevacid (A "Big" Acid Reflux Medication)

Are you awake when they put the camera down your throat? I have to have it done and I'm sorta nervous.

@jetset59 Yes, you are. I had the scope where they looked at my vocal cords, so I had to be awake so I could do things like sing high and low notes, etc. I've heard that you get put to sleep for scopes to the stomach and small intestine, though... not sure if that's all people or just children. (My younger sister had it done.)

Sounds like laryngopharyngeal reflux, and not GERD. The treatment for that condition is alot more aggressive. Usually requiring twice the dose for GERD. I have it that condition, and have gotten aspiration pneumonia because of it. Gonna switch to Prevacid coz Protonix is one messed up med. Avoid that one if you can.

You're right, though, in that I do have laryngopharyngeal reflux. Thing is, I get symptoms of GERD as well. I guess it was just easier to diagnose me with GERD as a catch-all, with the realization that my kind of acid reflux attacks my vocal cords.

Hi, i have laryngopharyngeal reflux. It happened at night when the acid reflux went all the way up to my nose and throat and esophagus. It burnt my tissues and now I have red bumps in my nose, throat, and esophagus. I was in pain for months.I had acid burn in my vocal cords too. I am on Prevacid now for a week. How long do you have to wait to see results and recover? What kind of foods do you avoid eating? What foods can you eat? Please respond back. Thank you.

You might be a fructose malabsorber. Have you had a fructose breath test. Also, Carcinoids can cause nodules on larnyx as well as other digestive issues. Has youn dr. goven you a Chromogranin A test?

@shrinerspark My roomate had it done for gagging symptoms, it took five minute or less, they knocked him out, and he woke up and felt like he had just blinked --it was that fast.

I've been a co-sufferer from my 20's on. I'm 28 now, it seems to worsen with age. I took prevacid for 4 years, tried to stop for 6 months. That was hell. Eating healthy helps, but not 100% ...

@shrinerspark thanks, it turns out my friend is going to the same gastroenterologist that im going to go to and when she had the scope done at like age 18 she was asleep. Neither of us have problems with our voices, however.
