Neanderthals have been ruled out as a plausible ancestor for modern man precisely because the genetic gap is too wide and all other hominids are MORE remote from us than the Neanderthal. We're not descended from any of them and we're not related to any of them, at least not via evolution. Any similar or same genes are pure coincidence or signs of a designer re-using the same parts.
