This was the final project for Paul Conner's texturing class at CU - Denver. We were given the model and went with an abandoned semi-European city during wartime. Each student did three buildings on average, Ryan doing camera work, myself doing effects and sound, with Sam being the group lead.

  • im not a critic or anythjing but why do al aftereffect movies on YT look so fake?

i mean its not like i can do beter since ive never used the program .. but my friend can make AWESOME shit .. and this.. this looks like .. .. not so great

  • @Thiery2864 I follow what you're saying, and with this being dated a few years I certainly see problems with it as well. But this doesn't use After Effects,it's all Maya in 3D, in fact I believe this was rendered as a single-pass with no compositing. (something I'd never do these days)

  • omg you guys.. now every building thats wrecked is 9/11? Oh no, the market went down, i have flashbacks.. Come on, i mean, im sorry for your loss but your overreacting seems kind of stupid.

    And awsome vid btw

  • @SuperPenetration Thanks, and love the username! It was never our intention to draw that connection, but sadly and understandably in America it IS etched deep into the national psyche.

  • very nice... especially like the draft of smoke and dust that belts out at street level at the end. Is that all done with particles?

  • Nah, it's a Maya fluid simulation that encompasses the full scene, the same fluid as the inital blast smoke. As the building collapses the emitter cranks the density rate back up as the fluid has its internal gravity ease in and the emitter is animated to follow the collapsing structure. Since the buildings have stand-in geo to collide with it the rush happens 'naturally'.

  • Omg looks so awesome, reminds me of The Mist :O

  • i just fucking pissed my pants, instanly as the vid end a HUUUGEEE bang went off outside, mus of been a leftover bomb from the 4th, idk why any 1 would not sue that big of a bomb until now but HOLY NUTS

  • @ICPJuggalo1988 ohh, okay my bad.. i just searched for After Effect videos so i assumed this was made with After Effects

  • if the cloud of dust that came through the streets was darker with a brown tint it would look better

  • nice 3d animation :D

  • this is really cool effects. this must have took a long time lol

  • @Yenaboi at least hes not a terrorist and he likes mythbusters :)
