Alastor's first form is fairly easy. If you hear him say "stinger", then either jump to avoid it or slow down to dodge it. He warps around a lot, but there's no real danger of a surprise attack. He does it to make himself difficult to hit, but he still gives you plenty of opportunities to land hits on him. You can hit him to remove his aura when he appears next to you, but he regains it kind of quickly. Air raid isn't even worth commenting on. If it hits you, you should feel bad about yourself. You only get 2 hits at a time on Alastor (in both forms) so use strong attacks like RHOH or RHK.

Alastor's second form is predictable, but still more difficult. You can save yourself a lot of problems by staying on the roof and going for the slow kill, instead of going for the quick kill on the lower level. As far as I can tell, his flurry attack has no indication at all of whether he'll attack high or low, so you need to be pretty lucky to get that method to work successfully. Anyway, Alastor will always follow the same attack pattern: Create flying blocks, shoot swords, vortex, close-range attack, vortex. If you want to make this fight a lot easier for yourself, don't let him create those flying blocks and if he does, destroy them as fast as possible. If you jump up to hit him while he's shooting swords at you, go into slow-mo so you can dodge them. You can hit them back if they fly towards you, but don't go out of your way to hit them back. Slow down well in advance for vortex and try to hit him out of it quickly. The close-range attack will either be a single strike with his sword or his flurry attack, but I recommend hitting him before he has a chance to do either. Remember to watch out for his 2nd vortex; it caught me off-guard a lot in the beginning.

If you hit Alastor (second form) during his sword-shooting attack, he'll come back and do it a second time. Also, if you hit the swords back at him and they hit him as soon as he appears, then he'll repeat that attack again if it is either the block-creating attack or the sword-shooting attack.

If you go to the lower floor, Alastor will create the blocks and shoot swords at you, but will then do air-raid, which you can avoid by out-running it. Alastor will then appear in front of you and do his flurry attack, which is by far the best way to damage him on any other difficulties. Just dodge the 4 stabs and RHOH (This is instant death for Alastor on normal difficulty). He'll then repeat this sequence.

There's a decent amount to remember about Alastor, which is one of the reasons why he can be difficult. Another big problem is only being able to hit him twice (unless you dodge his flurry), making the fight drag on and making you more likely to make mistakes.
