Jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2010.
Liu Xiaobo (pronunciation: [ljǒʊ̯ ɕjɑ̀ʊ̯pɔ́]; born 28 December 1955) is a Chinese literary critic, writer, professor, and human rights activist who called for democratic reforms and the end of communist one-party rule in China.[1] He is currently incarcerated as a political prisoner in the People's Republic of China.
He has served as President of the Independent Chinese PEN Center since 2003. On 8 December 2008, Liu was detained in response to his participation with Charter 08. He was formally arrested on 23 June 2009, on suspicion of "inciting subversion of state power."[2][3] He was tried on the same charges on 23 December 2009,[4] and sentenced to eleven years' imprisonment and two years' deprivation of political rights on 25 December 2009.[5]
During his 4th prison term, he was awarded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize, for "his long and non-violent struggle for fundamental human rights in China."[6][7][8] He is the first Chinese person to be awarded a Nobel Prize of any kind while residing in China.[9] He is the fourth person to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize while in prison or detention, after Nazi Germany's Carl von Ossietzky (1935), the Soviet Union's Andrei Sakharov (1975), and Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi (1991). And Liu is the first person since Von Ossietzky to be denied the right to have a representative collect the Nobel prize for him.

@richard19881102 In India we have lot of freedom and democracy and because of it we are slow in development. Chinese people should thank themselves they don't have a nonsense called democracy or useless freedom, that is actually obstacle for development

@wibas2008 If the rise of living conditions mean everything for human beings, then what is the difference between us and pigs? Not to mention that the rise comes not but because the communist regime did less. Truth to be told we will live better if they are gone.

I am an Indian and I support the view that Deng Xiaoping who transformed China with economic reforms deserves the nobel peace prize not Liu Xiaobo. Because living conditons, removing poverty brings peace to millions.

President Carter got the peace prize too. You know Obama was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize twelve days after taking office. Upon acceptance of winning it, Obama was praised by the committee, "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy". . They also gave the peace prize to Yasser Arafat, the leader of the PLO, the best known terrorist organization on the globe. This is like giving it to David Duke, the former Grand Wizard of the KKK.

(continue) and that's what is happening on Xiaobo Liu and Nobel Prize... and Chinese government is like "omg, they are attacking us. we are still not good enough to fight against them and we did do sth bad because of some of the stupid leaders. But things have gone too far, we can not handle these rite now, we must keep these secrets closed so that those people who are not well educated wont get charmed by these media." that's why freedom of speech is taking place in China.
