-Joe's POV-
I sat at the grand breakfast table with my family. Today was the day. Kevin, Nick, and I were looking forward to the arrival of our brides-to-be. We didn't pick them. Oh no. They were picked for us. Nick was nervous. Kevin was excited. I was angry. It wasn't fair that our lives were planned for us. My brothers called me a rebel; I called myself independent. Usually, I could get out of obligations, however, getting married was inevitable.
-Kevin's POV-
After breakfast, I got ready for the new lady in my life to arrive. I took my robe off and let my assistant, James (I hate calling them servants) help me put on my vest. By the time I was finished, I got the announcement that she was here. I came down the steps and there she stood, looking around in awe with my mother standing next to her. She noticed me immediately.
"Kevin, darling, come. This is Kara. Well, soon to be princess, but...oh, you know."
"Hi," I said quietly.
She looked up. "Um...hello."
I gave her a smile. "I can show you to your room."
"Oh, Kevin, let James carry that bag," she said when she saw me lift her bag from the ground.
"Mother, it's fine."
She nodded and I led her up the staircase.
-Kara's POV-
Kevin took my bag and led me up the huge staircase. It was a really nice place. There was a lot of drapery with beautiful designs and candles and things. We finally got to a door.
"So, Kara, this is your room."
He opened it and I gasped. The bed was huge, and the curtains had to be made of silk. There was a soft peach theme to the room, and I slowly walked in. Kevin followed me in and started talking.
"The bathroom is right here," he said, pointing to another door. "It's connected to my room, so we are forced to share."
I nodded. We were standing there rather awkwardly. "Thank you," I said.
"You're welcome," he replied warmly. He lightly touched my arm and I felt his breath on my cheek. He smiled again and made his way to the door. "And welcome home."
So, what's one to do in such a huge place such as this? I know no one, so I'm quite confused. I took off my gloves and placed the neatly in a drawer from my nightstand. Then I heard a soft knock at the door.
"Um, who is it?" I asked.
"Only your humble servant, Miss," I heard a soft voice say on the other side.
I opened the door to a girl who had to have been not much younger than me.
"Hello, Miss. I was just sent to tell you that lunch is in an hour's time."
"Um, thank you. But, where do we eat? And what do I wear?"
"I believe lunch today is out in the garden, and perhaps you could check your wardrobe for a suitable garment."
I nodded as she left the room and I looked in the wardrobe. My jaw dropped in amazement. The dresses were beautiful. I saw the least formal of the dresses and took it out. I put it up to me in the mirror and wondered if this was okay. I wondered if Kevin would approve of this. I opened the door to the bathroom and saw a door slightly ajar. Was I to go in there? I wasn't...sure. I decided to take a risk. I silently walked across the bathroom and peeked into his room. I saw a curly head looking at a book at a desk. I cleared my throat and he turned around.
"Forgive me if I disturbed you," I said, slowly stepping into the room.
He laughed a little. "Um, actually, you're not to come here unless you are summoned."
I blushed. "Oh."
"It's okay, you didn't know. We aren't ones to really follow formal rules anyways. Only in public or around my parents are you to call me Prince Kevin. In private, just call me Kevin. And I'll call you Kara. I'm laid back."
I nodded.
"I believe you needed something?" he said.
"Oh." I held up the dress for him to see. "Is this...appropriate for lunch?"
He looked it over and nodded. "It's perfect. Would you like me to escort you there?"
I looked at him and nodded again.
"And...Nicholas's fiance should be arriving within the hour. She is sixteen years of age."
I nodded and turned around. I stopped at the door. "When would you like me to be ready?"
"Just come in when you are," he said.
I gave him a smile and went back to my room.
