I back her up 100%! I got the chance to shake her hand today, she came by our plant to meet up with the owners and take pictures. She's such a sweetheart, which all congress people would be this honest and kind!

HR 5807 is what our nation needs. Yesterday would not have been soon enough.
We must help get this bill more sponsors.
NJ Maternity Care Worst to First 2010 Campaign wants to thank Congresswoman Roybal-Allard (CA-34) for introducing it and so eloquently presenting it for co-sponsors. Our nation is in a crisis and this bill needs to be passed immediately.

Thank you so much for addressing what so many of us already knew and trying to enact change. i've got tears in my eyes!

I am against all government pork spending, but I fully support this bill (and I read it). The way pregnant women are treated in hospitals borders on criminal. The trauma these women suffer--sometimes for many years--is unbelievable and usually completely avoidable. And the doctors attending these births often wouldn't describe many of these cases as "traumatic". To start learning about what women experience psychologically after a "normal" hospital birth, try a google search for BirthCut.

Thank you, Congresswoman Roybal-Allard! Good government at it's best.
This legislation is very important. The US has a terrible ranking on both maternal and infant mortality rates, way worse than over 30 other countries. We need to greatly improve the maternity care that it given. Go take a look at the bill on THOMAS. It is HR 5807. Congratulations, Congresswoman Roybal-Allard for this great new initiative.

Too bad this act doesn't include mandatory maternity leave for mother and baby. Instead of a maybe leave for 6-8 poorly paid or 12 weeks unpaid under FMLA with possibly no Health ins. . MOST other countries offer disability benefits w/ some pay for up to 1 yr for all women. This avoids mothers and families have to quite job or make hard choices in order to afford outrageous childcare and healthcare costs. Maybe babies would be more healthy if they can spend time with mom in a healthy environ.
