DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT:
Hands Solo had a long and complex development process. In writer Charlie Swinbourne's original draft of the script, Hands Solo's parents were both alive and grudgingly proud of their son's day job. As subsequent drafts were written, the parents were dead and Hands was an orphan.
Ilan Dwek and Jean St Clair survived through the edit until very late on, when the film was 17 minutes long and we had to make some difficult cuts.
Sadly, the parents had to be sacrificed because:
- The film was too long with their scenes included.
- Their storyline didn't really have a conclusion so felt redundant.
- The overall tone of the scenes with Hands talking about his parents, while funny, was also quite sad and didn't really fit in with the more lighthearted tone of the film as a whole.
But now we can finally show audiences this deleted scene, and it almost works as a standalone film!
In this clip you learn where Hands might have inherited his incredible powers, how his parents died... and most of all - just where did he find that advert for auditions in the first place?
