  • I am an Aortic Dissection survivor (UK) from back in 2003. No warning - not overweight or hypertensive. Just WHAM! Through some great work by the NHS doctors at Kingston Hospital (diagnosis) and 10 hours amazing surgery at St George's Hospital in London - as well as my wife(!) I now have a new dacron aorta and titanium aortic heart valve. And - it can happen to anyone - so if you have ANY CHEST PAINS get to A & E fast!

My website accessed from my YouTube profile has the full story..

  • Nice animation. It's always good to find this kind of videos on the Tube instead of dumb memes.

  • Marfan's can also occur in people of normal and short height, although it is more common to be unusually tall in Marfan's.

  • Common in Marfan Syndrome...get checked tall people!!!!!

  • thanks for the video. makes sense.

  • My wife had an Aortic Disection. I remember she complained that her back hurt. Minutes later she was on the floor. She was conscience until surgery. She spent her last days in ICU! I don't think this conditionhad anything to do with the heart.

In addition, she was a healthy woman, worked out at the gym allot. 80% to 90% mortality rate is right, it's a fast way to go. Still so shocking to everyone around her, you never really get over it.

  • it's caused by conditions that weakens or cause degenerative changes in the elastic and smooth muscle of layers of the aorta.

  • A clever demonstration. The guy typing this message survived an Aortic Tear and Cardiac Tamponade, one year ago, thanks to all surgeons and Intensive Care nursing staff at Castle Hill Hospital UK. Thank you for saving my life.

  • There's what, a 90% mortality rate?

  • so what would this lead to?
