This 1950 Pontiac is now complete, having had a full body off frame restoration/modification. The exterior appears 100% original except for the dual exhaust tips and color of paint, which is named Red Mica Pearl from a 2001 Lexus. It is similar to the original Sierra Rust but is more coppery and brilliant. The convertible is powered by a new ZZ4 crate motor prepped by Roy Brizio Street Rods into a retro look 1950 Olds motor, and is followed by a 700R4 transmission and a 9" Ford differential. "The Chief" has been modernized with power steering using a Cavalier rack and pinion, power brakes (disc on the front), 12 volt wiring and Vintage Air. The owner is in one of the photos but is not the bearded gentlement behind the wheel. That's John Ruiz, who did the excellent interior upholstery work. Paint was done by Scott Arnold Restorations in Mesa, AZ and most other work was performed by the owner, Arizona Gold'N Classics, Inc., which is owned by Kenneth R. Unger, C.P.A.. Ken's first car back in 1958 at Mt. Lebanon High was a 1950 Pontiac convertible. It was powered by the orignal straight 8 engine and Ken always wanted to have a V-8 like his friends, but didn't have the knowledge or bucks to convert the car to a V-8. About two years ago, after many car and truck restorations, Ken found another 1950 Pontiac convertible that needed everything but was 99.9% rust free. He was able to create the car he always wanted back in high school....only better.

@MY51PONTIAC The front brake system was ordered from Brake Tech Solutions in Charlotte, NC phone # 704-509-9210. On my system the calipers were mounted on the front side of the rotors and this reduced the turning radius and I could not install the factory sway bar, but this is not a problem for me as we drive slow and easy.

I love these cars and this is pretty much exacly what I would do myself. I just don't get the "Oldsmobile" motor? Why not a regular pontiac V8?

In 1958, my dad bought me my first car, a 1950 Pontiac convertible. I was 15 and in high school. Lot's of kids had very nice cars, Chevys with V-8's and all. My Pontiac had a straight eight with a standard trans. It had some power, but not much, and I dreamed about putting a performance V-8 in it. The Olds Rocket power V-8 was the big performace engine....along with the Chevy V-8's. I wanted to put an Olds Rocket in my Pontiac, but didn't have the money or the knowledge to do it. Now I do!
