Here in the US they don't even have high speed trains. Big business wants you to buy a car or fly. I just read a story about a US town that just banned bicycles because they have casinos in town and don't want the cars and bikes conflicting. In America it's all about money.

I am half-Danish and have been living in China for the past 8 years. Beijing used to be the bicycle capital here, and I myself owned a 40 year-old Flying Pigeon to get around, but in the past several years they have eliminated many bike lanes to accommodate the unexpected increase of automobiles, which are the ultimate status symbol for China's nouveau-riche. As a result, today Beijing has become the CONGESTION capital. China could learn from Danmark's example.

I don't know anyone here in Denmark that doesn't have a bike either infact danes buys new bikes once every 3 years, but that does not make something the best..!

Like in Holland it's the entier contry that bikes or has the opportunity too. You can go around the entire contry and Biketrails.

I am just saying it's not the amount that makes something the best but the qulity that does!

@lazymanndk But, the Netherlands seriously has more bicycles than inhabitants... For example my family; I have a bike myself, but that's only useful around the city I live in. But for my college I have to go to another city (with the train) where I use my fathers old bike (he uses his bike to get to his office also) AND my father is planning to buy a race-bike also...

I don't think it's the amount of bikes but the infrastrucktur.. if it were about the amount of bikes my guess is that any major city in china has more bikes than Denmark and Holland put together.
