The Muslims played a principal role in the history of Spain. Their presence illuminated the Iberian Peninsula while the rest of Europe was engulfed in darkness. And so, Andalusia produced a great civilization far ahead and advanced than the rest of Europe. Under their rule, Muslims made Spain a center for learning and knowledge. The Muslims were taught reading, writing, math, Arabic, Qur'an, and Hadith (Sayings of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH), and became leaders in math, science, medicine, astronomy, navigation, etc. Al-Andalus became renowned for its prosperity as people who quested for knowledge journeyed from afar to learn in its universities under the feet of the Muslims. As a result, Andalus gave rise to a great many intellectual giants. Muslim Spain produced philosophers, physicians, scientists, judges, artists, and the like. Ibn Rushd, (Averroes) Ibn Sina, (Avicenna) Ibn Zuhr, (Avenzoar), Al-Kwarizmi, (Algorizm) and Al-Razi, (Razes) to name a few, were all Muslims educated in Andalus. 14 Martin Luther, the founder of Protestantism, was also educated in Andalusia. It is from the Andalusian philosophers, Ibn Rushd, and Ibn Sina that great renowned Christian men like St. Thomas Aquinas borrowed their philosophies. Both St. Thomas Aquinas and Dante called Ibn Rushd or "Averroes" the "The Commentator" and incorporated the views of Muslims. Through the works of Aristotle, Ibn Rushd reconciled reason with religion. However, Aquinas attempted to refute Ibn Rushd's ideas because they placed a great deal of emphasis on human reason over faith, which were a "threat" to Christian beliefs. 15 Interestingly enough, Thomas Aquinas described Arabs as "brutal men dwelling in the desert." Dante himself was familiar with Muslim figures. It is reported by countless historians, including William Phipps, in his book, Muhammad and Jesus ...

@joonte1010 Yes I know that Europe has built some of the greatest things this world has ever seen, and yes Christianity has "changed" Europe a lot some for better and some for worse. And how am I the stupid and ignorant one for being tolerant and defending something like Islam and Christianity, something that 1/2 of the world believe in today? I am an Atheist but I know how important religion is in the world it gives people strength and morals to live by. Why would you want to take that away?

@HeirOfBabylon Please can you flush yourself and your ideas down the toilet? Your empty headed ideas of Islam as being something great is truly ignorant and retarded. But what else can you expect from an US citizen today? Your peoples ignorance and stupidity is beyond imagining.

@HeirOfBabylon Christianity ruined Europe you morron. It gave the people border between them. The kings of old used the religion as something to get power from, They were far from being true beliviers of christianity. I dont think you understand what i mean? Architecture is indeed a good thing, We have thousends of castle ruins and buildings from the medieval age all over my country - Not only the muslims had the ability to build buildings like that.

@anarmehtievful It was the Muslims that destroyed Constantinopel and enslaved/massacered its christian population, Not the Chatolics of Europe. It was the Muslims that deformed the churches into mosques. As a result of the Muslim conquest of byzantium Empire - Eastern Europe had to suffer greatly by Muslim invasions attempts. It wasnt until the Holy league lead by bitter Spanish chatolics that the Muslims finally were stopped.

@anarmehtievful Vikings? They were provoced to attack the christians since charlemange tried to force christianity upon them, Before that they were peacefull traders and farmers that cared little of the surrounding world - They knew however about the great wealth the churches of Western Europe had and thats why they aimed for the churches during the raids.. Later however they started doing massive invasions.

@anarmehtievful I dont give a fuck about the jews, They have caust alot of problems in history and today aswell, They are just as guily as the rest of us. It was the greed of christianity that sacked Constantinopel, Not the Europeans. The chatolics of Europe viewed the ortodox Byzantians as primitives and not "Worthy" of being christians. As i stated in my previous comment, Christianity is just as primitive as Islam and still is in places such as the US.

@HeirOfBabylon The Islamic Empires were NOT the Barbarian Vikings who were the symbol of destruction.
