Please please please don't feed wild lorikeets bread or sunflower seeds, it is very damaging to their insides because they are nectar and fruit eaters. If you feed the wild ones seed they can loose the feathering on their tongue and will not be able to eat in the wild, (they use the feathering on their tongue to get the nectar out of flowers) You can buy a lorikeet and honeyeater powder from any pet or produce store. You can leave it dry or mix it with warm water and they absolutely love it.

chingchongchaina,
We originally used mixed bird seed but they only picked out the sunflower seeds. So for the last few years, sunflower seeds and our fresh fruit leftovers - apple and pear cores and what little is left on stone fruit.

Frank,
We are not gardeners but there are a few bottle brush and grevilleas around that attract them as well here on the NSW south coast.
They come to my whistle of a morning and they will try to land on your hands. Currently they must be nesting as we are feeding only about 6 compared to the usual 30-40.
In the Readers Digest bird book is says they will travel up to 40 km a day to feed.
:)
