Qi represents the connection between the mind and body, so it is indirectly present in all arts whose goal it is to strengthen that connection. I think the narrator is implying that the concept of qi and its cultivation is not included in Yiquan's teachings.

@8matthewlee8 You are right and wrong... Just standing won't do anything much other than give you strong legs. Yiquan has less to do with discipline and lots to do with relaxation, bodily alignment and intention... particularly intention.
Standing with relaxation and feelings of being supported and supporting pressure in different directions for 90 seconds will give more results than toughing it out and standing for seventy minutes without these feelings.

it is important to understand that mind in yiquan does not mean the comparitive mind at all. this character means intent. this intent is the natural intent from natural exsistance. the problem is that most train without distinction between the intellectual mind and the intent feeling. If you have no method to become natural mind, then this practice distorts the intellectual mind to the point ofharm. You cannot just stand with a mental image and get Chi or bun lie, that is illusion.

Only if you know the correct way to stand though! I have met people who stand longer that that but can't touch me... I think most of them just wasting time.

@CottonBoxer lol you know the trick. Of course it is working with qi without naming it. The founder of the system said there is no reliance on Qi. So why you mention Qi? You don't need the qi concept to envolve very powerful qi. just lead the body by the mind. Where the mind goes there goes the qi. But Qi often is mistreated for tricks and cheats to impress the people. As I said the founder of Yiquan used to says there is no such thing like qi in Yiquan

to explain further, yiquan doesn't get caught up in talking about qi , but their qi/jin is developed much like many other internal martaial arts. i recall it said that the yin aspect of yiquan is not exoressed by most of it's people, only the very best can express this aspect too.
still they sure can express the yang aspect of fajin, very well. sorry about all the typos in my other comment. i type with 2 fingers & a thumb usually lol.
"In Yi Quan there is no reliance on Qi..." 1:52 INCORRECT
Wang Xiangzhai developed the qi kung system, mind/intent boxing system from Hsing-I. The system is intent and qi. -and where the mind goes the qi follows.

Yiquan is what Wang Xiangzhai belived to be at the essence of the internal martial arts, and it doesn't rely on qi theory for it to be taught to students.
