A promising new treatment that involves placing a patient's limbs into a specially modified microwave oven could provide hope in the fight against malaria. The treatment works by using low-powered microwave radiation to target crystallized iron molecules stored by the malaria parasites after it digests hemoglobin inside the body's red blood cells. The microwaves kills the malaria parasites while leaving healthy red cells unharmed. The next stage involves testing the treatment on mice. Source: NY Times
