Lecture 11 of Clay Carson's Introduction to African-American History Course (HIST 166) concentrating on the Modern Freedom Struggle (Fall 2007). This class session is a guest lecture by Clarence Jones on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Recorded November 1, 2007 at Stanford University.

This course introduces the viewer to African-American history, with particular emphasis on the political thought and protest movements of the period after 1930, focusing on selected individuals who have shaped and been shaped by modern African-American struggles for freedom and justice. Clayborne Carson is a professor in the History Department at Stanford University; Clarence Jones is the guest lecturer.

  • @SKUNKBALLScom racist is not bigotry. Racism has to do with a hegemonic group of people, or the idea of centrism.

  • Exactly 818poochie. If history was taught expressing the thoughts and motives of all involved, there would be no need for a group whose story is not told to have a forum to do so.

  • because general history is taught from the perspective of white men so there is no reason to have a special class for that. It becomes necessary to make room for history from the perspective of those who's view points are not expressed in general history classes. Thus you get women's studies, black studies, etc.

  • Why is it not "RACIST" to have a history class about one RACE?

    Hypocrites.
