This course introduces the viewer to African-American history, with particular emphasis on the political thought and protest movements of the period after 1930, focusing on selected individuals who have shaped and been shaped by modern African-American struggles for freedom and justice. Exactly 818poochie. If history was taught expressing the thoughts and motives of all involved, there would be no need for a group whose story is not told to have a forum to do so.

because general history is taught from the perspective of white men so there is no reason to have a special class for that. It becomes necessary to make room for history from the perspective of those who's view points are not expressed in general history classes. Thus you get women's studies, black studies, etc.
