Wing Chun Training

Hello, this is Ben Jacobsen with the Placerville Wing Chun Club. This is a video response to Sifu Zeigler's "Wing Chun Training - Solo Drills.

I have to say that what I liked most about this video was the whole idea of chain punching while you are moving. I think that this helps to develop a good rhythm. One of the problems that I have in my own training is "dead hips".

I find that by doing these types of drills, my timing and rhythm get a lot better - much more stable and symmetrical.

This is Ben Jacobsen with a video response, look forward to posting more in the future. Have a great day and train hard!

  • Excellent observation Carcosa! It seems like what you are saying is that it is also important to practice off tempo - which is something I agree with wholeheartedly.

  • wt heck? i didnt learn anything about solo drills it should say video response int he title

  • You talk tooooooooooooo much!

  • cool . Hey so if i keep doing this can i increase my hand speed? and how long does it take to develop punch speed and how do u know if u hv developed it? thx haha good video xD

  • I found that this kind of thing is easier if you do odd numbers of punches per burst because it has side-changing built in; ie 3 punches starting with your right, with a step on the first beat. You can do this kind of drill where every time you step forward you deliver a low-line kick. Or you can do it with claws instead of punches...

  • Hey Ben, I like moving drills just so I can check on my grounded mobilization. In my Wing Chun training personally I find it beneficial to move around and while preforming random WC movements. I like this punching drill too.

  • Your right B... after all that Siu Nim Tao it's good to start moving it around and getting those hips active. aloha, SifuZ
