I discovered Steve Spiegl's "PERSPECTIVES" album in my high school band director's office in 1982 and became an instant, lifelong jazz enthusiast...like my hero Professor Peart, who produced the Burning for Buddy series to honor his jazz influences, this is my humble first attempt to honor Steve's influence on my musical education.

  • I much appreciate your comment, sir! I have had the recent honor of becoming friends with Steve & Gang, and was his guest in California last year when his band played at the Typhoon in Santa Monica. No words can describe the coolness of that experience. Keep playing, my friend! Seen my "Johannes" or "Bacchanalia" vids yet?

  • You inspired me to try and learn this song which opened my eyes to jazz drumming. Thank you so much for posting this video.

  • Thanks so much for your comment...the exact reason I did this, as noted in the info section. I've since become good friends with Mr. Spiegl, and his gifts continue to inspire me just as these charts did 30 years ago. Please keep watching, and keep playing...always challenge yourself, and Spiegl's music can provide a lifetime of that.

    Godspeed- Eric

  • Man we did this whole gig in jazz band in highschool,HOT, SPANISH STEPS, PARFAIT, THEN AND NOW......Being lead trumpet, it was an honor to jam that shit.....Somebody put "Spanish Steps" on youtube.....pleaze

  • You were lucky. I didn't get the chance to actually perform any of this until 2008. My HS stage band didn't play these charts during the 3 years I performed with them...but stumbling across Steve's album was a life-changer, proved right here 30 years later.

"Spanish Steps," you say? On my to-do list. Stay tuned- and thanks for stopping by.

  • Hello Jazzies! I am not a musician, but I am Steve Spiegl's daughter, Nikki. I want to say how cool it is to see his fanbase playing the stuff I grew up hearing throughout the house. Great job RRPD4130- I can't wait to hear you try my song!

  • Hey! Great to hear from you! Sent you a PM...stay tuned!

  • I played bass on this in jazz band in 1981-82. My old fender p-bass with the school's bassman 10 amp. what a sound. Great to go back and find all this music I played so long ago is still played. Good drum track.
