  • I spent my first 35 years of life in Michigan and moved away in 2004. I miss Coneys a lot. My wife is Canadian and I introduced her to Coneys. She likes them, but lacks the enthusiasm I have for them. She asked me if there are restaurants in Michigan that serve "just plain" Chilli Dogs, or do all of them serve Coneys only. Can anybody help me answer her question ? Thanks !

  • I've been raised on Jackson coney islands which is where they were actually invented. I've had all of them and these are chili dogs, not coney's, beanless chili but still chili. I like them all but Jackson style is what I like the best and the one I make my coney sauce like. All twice ground beef heart, no burger, no liver, and then the spices.

  • tom is a fat ass! lol

  • Angelos in FLINT baby...

  • I know herr! :D

They have the BEST food. Legit. Everything on the menu is amazing!!! :)

  • @RoadsideDinerLover Is that the secret of the coney's in Detroit? Didn't know about the beef liver and heart making the secret sause.

  • Beefheart and beef liver are used in the Flint coney version. Meat sauce like this comes from the Macedonian area and also Greece hence the people coming over to the USA and creating this type of hot dog. But the Flint and Detroit coney are unique to Michigan. They should have included Jackson MI because a man came there and started a coney business in the early 1900's by the last name of Todoroff and his descendants claim he invented the Michigan coney island before the Flint and Detroit guys.

  • There is also a chain in Tulsa called Coney I-Lander, but their chili is nasty and greasy. They have a similar back story (like the lady who was talking earlier) about a greek guy coming to America, but moved to Texas, then started his coney business in Tulsa in 1926. They don't have any Greek food though, just Coneys, and they suck.

  • Looks really good! I live in Tulsa, OK and we have lots of Coney places out here. There is a Greek Coney place called Jim's Coney Island. They have coneys, frito pie and chili, but they also have Greek Yeros and Soulvaki.

  • I am curious if they're sauce has tomato paste in it. I also wonder if beefhaert s also used. I trid t make asauce with a 50/50 hamburger/beefheart mix. It was reall good!
