Shot on site at our little Stone cottage farm, here in N.E Ohio. We made a fruit cider press using a 12 ton hydraulic jack shop press. Purchased from Harbor freight ( dot com) for $89. Total price for this press was under $120 with very easy pieces put together for its completion.
We have 12 bearing apple trees on our new land. A few ripen in the early season which have made a nice combination for cider. I make hard cider as well as non alcoholic cider. I do not go over the hard cider in this video but will consider one for the future from start to finish.
In this video, I give the overview of how our cider press iwas made and a few safety features we added. I go over selecting your fruit for pressing, as well as some basic inexpensive must haves for pressing fruit at home.

wouldnt it be easier to just buy a juicer!?
dan3nad 1 month ago
@dan3nad if you have a small amount BUT the point is a large size press for the MULTIPLE apple trees which could fill a truck bed or more would burn out a juicer. I have gone through 2 food processors just chopping up the apples. Juicers are not meant to run an entire day and would take much more time. A press does not ned electricity where a juicer does. A press can be brought out in the orchard with no worries on an outlet.

I saw this shop press in an ad after I made my pinewood press. Anyway I think it is a cool idea! I make much more at a time though. Take a look at my channel and let me know what you think. Thanks! Nick

@SaveSkills I can make more then what I show in the video. By lowering the box tray-where the metals pins are holding it in place. But I had one mesh bag left after bursting the other 2 I owned. LOL. I love the look of the wood ones but after pricing the hard wood for such a model, I knew it was not something I could afford to spend almost $300 on. Some pieces (the 4x4 or 2x4) of hard wood were priced at $50 a piece and not in normal stock so special order only for 4ft tall ones Cool channel!.
