ORIGINAL JELLY ROLL BLUES by Jelly Roll Morton's Red Hot Peppers 1926

The Original "Jelly Roll Blues" is widely acknowledged as the very first Jazz song, written by Jelly Roll Morton in 1910 and first published in 1915. This version is by Jelly Roll Morton's Red Hot Peppers, recorded in 1926 and released on Victor label, and here reissued on a British Rythym Society label 78 rpm record about 1950 or so. Enjoy!

I have a reissue of the Victor recording you used for this post . Victor 20405-A - recorded: Dec. 16, 1926.

Tune was PUBLISHED in 1915 - lyrics of "Darktown Strutters Ball" from 1916 have a reference to this tune.

If there is an actual 1915 recording do you have the discographical information on it - I got this information from the Online Discographical Project.
