What do you think Mark thought about Guy Ritchie getting his hands on one of the most beloved characters in the history of Western civilization and casting Robert Downey Jr. in the title role?

  • I don't think the relationship between Holmes and Watson was that great. I think it's mainly about Holmes. And the interesting way that Downey plays him. I was surprised that Downey did not play him with his usual ticks and winking at the camera. He was very un-Tony Stark, yet fascinating and watchable nonetheless.

  • @skinwalkerxxx True, but to me, Downey is only ever as good as his straight men/women. He needs solid actors to be his anchor while he goes crazy (i.e. Val Kilmer in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Gwyneth in Iron Man, Jude Law in this.)

  • @TulseLuper Perhaps. But I just don't think Judd Law was that good or his part was that well written. I was surprised how invisible he was in fact. I've seen actors will less to play with and they came off better, more sparks, at least. I would have loved seeing Seymoore Hoffman in that role.

  • @skinwalkerxxx We'll agree to disagree. I thought Jude Law was very funny and held the film together.

  • I'd pay to watch a film about the geezerish antics of Jimmy the Snout

  • Wow, I thought I was listening to a review of the second Sherlock Holmes movie. I didn't realize it was a review of the first one until the last minute. They're really similar.

  • Jimmy the Snout! Mumbles!

  • Jimmy the Snout! LOL

  • Who is the other guy with Mark? I wish he'd just stay quiet. His constant interruptions are infuriating.

  • i hated it tried my best to like it .

  • I like the fact that Mark Kermode did seem to be genuinely pleased to have derived pleasure from a Guy Ritchie film! Could the infamous sea have parted? Personally I can see where Mark is coming from on some points. I liked Lock Stock and Snatch and thought they were interestingly done and amusing. Sure, its all geezers and guns, but I first watched it as almost a caricature of that world, and it was funny, it was only when I realised Ritchie was serious about it that I began to worry.

  • i hate guy ritchie movies.

  • @blyndon1 for being numpties

  • @Minic15 så soft
