@THEMOJOMANsince1959 There's a solid history on Wikipedia of this song. It came out on 45 in late 1963 by Kai Winding the jazz trombonist--he fortunately had singers, namely Cissy Houston, Dionne and Dee Dee Warwick. Irma Thomas' version was released in early 1964 as the B-side of of a 45.

I NEVER REALLY GAVE IT A THOUGHT,THE SONG ALWAYS JUST SEEMED TO BE SO MUCH LIKE THEM THAT I NEVER DREAMED ANYONE ELSE DID IT FIRST.SHE DOES A REALLY NICE JOB ON IT TOO.

Band sounds awful, Irma sounds good though.

Wow! You go girl! The voice is still there and she looks Fab U Lous!
-
Great cover of this tune by Irma. She used Sinatra's old trick of the "trombone vocal" which is more apparent of her studio version.

Be that as it may, Irma Thomas has become a tower of strength for the city of New Orleans and the troubles it's had for the last four years. She has consistently worked long and hard to bring NOLA and its music back to life. To a great extent, this song is an anthem for the rejuvenation of The Big Easy.
WTF SHES 67!!! who the hell sounds this good at that age??

am so glad this lady is still with us. God Bless Irma Thomas! The new Queen of Blues - KoKo Taylor our departed Queen R.I.P. They performed together lots of times. I loved Irma's original version better than the Stones.
