Gwen's First Camera

AKA "Trying to Domestifle Gwen"

Domestifle is a word I just made up. it is "domestic" and "stifle" together, too straightforward to require definition i hope

10 years old, playing with dope new video camera (my 1st)

my parents try to keep my natural "creepiness" (for lack of a better word to describe myself) at bay by telling me stupid rules about batteries and making me feel bad about cutting up the directions. and about everything else i do with the camera. i get the feeling from this footage that they were not entirely sure what to make of my "creative impulses/curiosity" which they clearly deemed as "annoying" or "weird." i think really, i was just getting myself acquainted with the various things i could do with the camera.

dad pretends to care but really its just to go along with the whole 'The Man Always has to know Something about Technology/Tools' thing as opposed to any genuine interest / curiosity.

ALL they care about is what they are gonna eat tonight! and what the cat's gonna eat! i love when it goes from a shot of the cat on the counter down to the stool, on which the cat is painted, looking into a mirror at itself no less! (3:04) i also like the sinister implication of the juxtaposition of my dad saying "so what am i eating?" at that exact moment

i hate the way my mom laughs and tells me to stop filming her. its like she's playing some weird hot potato game with the feeling of being embarrassed.

(i must mention that they have each somehow developed a completely different persona for themselves over the past 10 yrs. they seem so strange in the video compared to how they are now. i have yet to wrap my mind around them completely, i think.. also, the people called "mom" and "dad" are biologically my aunt and uncle, i was adopted)
