Reporter:Ms. Entezari, We heard the discussion about sexual abuse. Did you witness any case of this kind of torture, what you personally observed, perhaps your cellmates?
Ms Entezari: Because I was imprisoned for 7 years, I can tell you I witnessed different types of torture.
Not all of these kinds of torture were done to me personally, but I witnessed the victims of these tortures, tortures done to my cellmates.
For example, in regards to rape in jail, I saw a young girl about 16-17 year old, very pretty and innocent girl.
We heard she had been raped, that is why she was suffering from severe mental distress and nervous breakdown.
I knew of several prisoners who were brought to our section with signs of complete nervous breakdown indicating they had been raped.
Even this teenager was put in a cell at Gohar-dasht prison with another female with an extreme case of mental distress.
The cellmate had been brought over from the Ghezel-hesar camp with a complete nervous breakdown. Nothing could be done for her.
The teenage girl was put in the same cell as her to make sure she would reach the same mental state as the other girl.
After a while, the teenage was released from Gohar-dasht and brought over to our jail.
We noticed her bad condition so we tried to take care of her
She had a blank look on her face all the time and would not talk to any of us
After a while she started to trust us and began to talk, but the revolutionary guards found out and removed her from our section.
Reporter: Yes, this maybe a difficult question, but while in prison you were being interrogate, pressured, tortured. What did you feel? What kind of mental condition you were in?
Ms. Entezari:You see, we were dealing with a system of government that put pressure on all people, it oppressed all people, but their take on women was different
Principally, they are anti women, they consider women second class citizen.
Now they have encountered a wave of women who, after the revolution, saw the opportunity to be politically involved and express their views and opposition
Now, these women have been arrested and are in jail.
These women are now dealing with prison guards who were anti-women.
All prisoners under pressure and torture but women had an additional pressure, we were being humiliated more
They would ask what women had to do with politics? That women needed to obey their fathers, husbands, and brothers.
Now theyre facing a woman who had her own political views. They could not even digest that idea. This was the reason for their additional hostility toward women.
We felt this humiliation and pressure every second. The pressure and torture in prison was stemmed from this anti-woman principal.
Reporter: What do you think how this affected you emotionally, before and after prison?
Ms. Entezari: The group of women that I was part of in prison, even though we were under tremendous pressure and torture during those times ..
The prison situation during the 1980s, in my opinion, is not comparable with any other time in the history of Islamic Republic, the indiscriminating executions, during the 1980s.
One of the most horrifying memories is that every early evening,
They come and take many of our prison-mates for execution right outside of the wall of our section, section 204 of Evin
Behind that very wall, there were nights when they would execute hundreds of prisoners. The very same people that were with us until an hour ago
We could hear the continuous explosive sound of the bullets being fired, then silence and then the individual bullets being shot in our friends heads to finish up the job, we could hear the shouts, we would count them: 70, 75, 80,
I dont think there is any more horrifying torture than this
This has rooted in every cell of our being, it has affected us so much that, even after all these years, I still have nightmares about it, when I think of the time that peoples children with tied hands were taken for execution.
Coincidentally, for most of us, this had a positive impact on our determination.
Because we realized we were right. We were defending a cause. We were imprisoned for a cause.

  • So much for talking about their treatment from personal experience. The culture in iran must treat raped women as scum. All the iranian women who have been tortured say "rape and sexual assault was common practice (BUT IT DIDNT HAPPEN TO ME!!!)"

Islam is pure evil. It says women are only worth half as much as a man same as it says anyone whoisnt muslim is 2nd class. Its obviously just a handbook for how to concur and oppress women and other cultures, written by a warlord (mohamed).
