The defaults on the Nikon D90 are NOT by any means reasonable for autofocusing. You need to take a minute, and change three settings! It's easy!

  • Forgive me if my question is obvious, but I want to make sure I understand.. I have a D90 I changed my AEL-AFL button to AF lock only, as opposed to AF-ON. Something clicked in your video when you said you can lock the focus did you switch the setting right above the info. button to L or keep it on the dot? Also I have a 35mm lens should I have it set to AF or M in the front? If it doesn't matter will I alway see that light (dot) on the inside when I have locked the focus? SORRY I need help.

  • @colpez The L switch locks the focus selector (the thing you toggle in the viewfinder for the spot to focus on). If you are using Auto-focus, switch both the camera and lens to AF (some models say AF/M). If it says "AF/M or M", choose the AF/M.

  • tried changing the settings but once i go to autofocus and then to the first choice it says "this option is not available with your current settings" D:

  • @cariiiBoo143 Is the lens in Auto as well? What mode are you in?

  • @sgtjlopez yes.

oh nvm i just watched the vid again the AF thing was locked XD. also my camera was set up with "Auto area" do i just change it to single point? thanks!

  • @cariiiBoo143 If you are using Auto-exposure mode instead of Manual, Aperture Priority, or Shutter Priority, you are not going to be able to control the focusing spot. That is one thing that I admire about the D7000.

  • @sgtjlopez Thanks so much!

  • @BfoSHIZnats I don't recommend manual focusing with a 1.4 lens unless you have a really good eye. If you're off by an inch, the image will be completely out of focus. 1.4 is a very shallow depth of field, might look good in the viewfinder, but it's easy to be out of focus.
