I am Patrick Hawley and I build acoustic guitars. This video is my son, Dave, "test driving" an all mahogany guitar that I built for Toronto musician Nick Gorecki.
Nick approached me to make a mahogany guitar with a minimal of bling. He wanted the "growly" sound and dark look. I think this guitar fits the bill. The top is made from two unmatched, but similar looking boards that have great cross-grain striations. The body, fret board and head are bound in ebony. There is no purfling however, Nick's one concession on the no bling was a rosette that included some paua abalone. The ebony fret board has some nice brown streaking that matches the mahogany. The guitar is finished in satin polyurethane. I will be installing the LR Baggs iMix pick-up system.
i have recently bought a guild gad25 and it sounded wonderful in the shop when i got home i started not to like the mahogony sound it was too dull,i felt so silly. What i would like to know is will the mahogony sound get abit lighter with age.p.s i have seen some of your guitars and am surprised some big corparate monster has not offered you millions for your name cheers mate
