Fox News claims Sri Lanka has the best performing Bourse in the world

The 'Fox News' in the US has said that the best performing stock market in the world is in Sri Lanka. The business Journal was confined to Sri Lanka today.


It said that Sri Lanka is an emerging country in Asia with a population of 21 million people. The population consists of Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, Burgher and Malay Communities. Sri Lanka is placed on a topmost place with regard to maritime activities. It is also placed in an important position as a centre that links the East and the West. Tea which is a major export crop in Sri Lanka is world renowned. Sri Lanka is also famous for rubber products, gems, coconuts and spices. In 2010 the rate of economic growth was 7.2 percent.

A substantial development has been indicated in the tourism sector. The natural beauty and the country's cultural heritage are tourist attractions. In 2010 the New York Times News Paper listed Sri Lanka as the top tourist destination in the world. National Geographic Magazine also included Sri Lanka amongst the 25 top tourist destinations of the world. The number of tourists visiting Sri Lanka has doubled compared to previous year. In May 2009 Sri Lanka achieved a special victory by defeating LTTE terrorism that prevails for more than two decades. With that Sri Lanka has achieved progress in many sectors. Sri Lanka is now at threshold of peace and prosperity.
The infrastructure in the war ravaged areas is being developed with foreign aid. Socio-development programmes have also been launched. Many persons displaced due to the war have returned to their home towns. After 1983, it was in 2010 that an election was held for the entire country. The masses re-elected President Mahinda Rajapaksa approving the Mahinda Chinthana Policy. In the Parliamentary Election held in April his party achieved a 2/3 victory. The political and socio-economic co existence has shown a record improvement since May 2009 after terrorism was eliminated. The benefits are being reaped by all communities and the expectation of Sri Lanka is to emerge as the 'Wonder of Asia'.
