I used the SteriPEN on a trip down to Monterrey, Mexico. This is one country you do not want to drink the water in. Many in our party drank from sources claiming to be filtered and wound up with "Montezuma's Revenge" (also known as the unholy squirts). I used the same "filtered" water as they did, but I used the SteriPEN to sterilize it and I was fine. No squirts for me. I have also used it while hiking in the mountains in New Mexico to drink water from small streams and creeks. It works great!
