not to mention there are women who have their breasts amputated as a preventative measure, that's just insane imo. Your gut instinct for avoiding this machinery is right; the smooshing of the breasts, if there are already cancercells present can actually help spreading the cancer plus the radiation increases your risk of cancer, esp in women who have not gone into menopause yet, because the breast tissue is very sensitive to radiation

but if you start early with mammograms, the radiation damage builds up, because it has cumulative carcinogenic effects. There are better alternative screenings like thermography . Dr Mercola speaks about this here /watch?v=e0ivT0rFNoA
Since mammographic screening was introduced, the incidence of a form of breast cancer called ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS ) has increased by 328%. Mammos can also help spread existing cancer cells due to the pressure placed on the breast

radiation of 1 mammogram = 1000 chest X-rays, I wouldnt call that small.. there is a better alternative screening: thermography. According to Dr. S. Epstein of the Cancer Prevention Coalition, “Screening mammography poses significant and cumulative risks of breast cancer for pre-menopausal women.” The NC Centre in Denmark found that mammos may harm 10 times as many women as they help. Since the intro of mammos, the incidence of ductal carcinoma in situ has increased by 328%

@dromycatcher I did some research and there have been many studies on this. Overall, because of newer technology while the exposure to radiation exists the benefits of early detection outweigh the risk of radiation exposure with mammos. Thanks for giving me something interesting to research.. Linda

@dromycatcher the dose of radiation used in mammo's is so small I don't believe it can increase your risk of BC. Most women only get them bi-annually as long as there is no risk for it in the family and their baseline is good.

@Allina277 no, I meant for a biopsy. Mammo is having your breast pressed between two plastic trays but it is only uncomfortable for few seconds.. really. If I could go with you for you mammo I would so you wouldn't be scared! There are lots of videos online showing how its done.
