Just a quick ride around the neighborhood to make sure the gearing was in order.

  • Yes, I converted it for USS. I haven't been on a single rider upright bike since 1998, so I don't have any speed comparisons, but speed is not my priority.

  • @sinistarx have you ever tried the streetmachine with ASS? i like ASS on the HP spirit and speedmachine (and i agree about the twitchiness - i fell off twice!) so i'm wondering what it would be like on the streetmachine (it's non-standard). how's the handling with USS?

  • @AntiProUltra Not on the Steet Machine, no. Handling of a Street Machine with USS is superb. I eventually sold the Speedmachine because I realized I had switched wholesale to the SM Gte. It was instantly stable and comfortable for me, though it didn't look as sleek.

  • that looks like a smooth ride. I just test rode a bent today for the first time and found it was a bit shakey. I guess over time things get easier. What's your impression of the Speedmachine? Pros and cons? cheers....

  • It does take a bit of riding to get used to being in a completely new position. On the Speedmachine - it's shakier than most recumbents. I can normally jump on a bike and just take off, but the Speedmachine has been a challenge. The main "pro" for me is the low seat height - I can get my feet to the ground quickly and comfortably. I also love the styling. The "cons" are the twitchy steering and the weight (though I have it decked out for touring, not for racing).

  • didi you convert this bike for below seat steering? are you faster on this than on a normal upright bike?

  • Yes Velotechnik bike are very heavy better suited for touring in flat land than fast rides in hilly land
