In this episode of "Cooking with Nana," I show how to make larb thao (ລາບເທົາ), or literally, "spicy algae salad."

Thao (ເທົາ) is green algae that grows in ponds. The thao in Laos is a lot cleaner than in USA, unless you have a special clean pond to grow it..

Believe it or not, when Lao people first arrived in USA, we used real green algae to make this dish because the ponds and rivers used to be cleaner.

I will be using spinach instead of real green algae because I can't find any green algae that is clean enough to eat.
