A driver's Eye View of the Swanage Branch early in 2009. The Swanage Railway are connected to the national network at Motala, although the track needs much upgrading before regular passenger services recommence. In this video you will see the various stages that have to currently be gone through to come of the National Network at Worgret Jct before proceeding down the stub to Motala, the official boundary, then onto Norden where I was on crossing duty protecting the ungated crossing. After getting onto the Swanage Railway proper the journey through to Swanage is straight forward with two 'single line tablet' exchanges at Corfe Castle (where we pass the Swanage Railway class 117 unit) and Harmans Cross before arriving at Swanage where we see M7 30053 waiting to depart with a service train for Norden. With thanks to everyone involved for the filming.

  • Were is the SWT Bubble car now?

  • It has been sent away to be professionally refitted with original seating and doors etc. Should be a valuable asset for the evening service outside peak season

  • Can you identify the music please.

  • I take it that this is speeded up?

  • Good to see this through journey is possible again. Looks like a bit of rethinking of signals at least will be needed for regular through services. If there is no bay at Wareham (to say nothing of the practicalities of operating preserved trains on the national network), where will Swanage Railway trains connect with the main line? The alternative would be a new interchange-only station at Worgret Junction like the Isle of Wight Steam Railway have at Smallbrook Junction.

  • love all these trane vids all the best RobotRuss

  • did the fly on windscreen have a ticket

  • hello, does the line reach wareham now? in my lost railways of dorset it went no further than norden although there were plans to extend the line in 2005.

  • The Swanage branch was always single track although the LSWR built the bridges between Corfe and Swanage to take two. And the closure had nothing to do with Beeching who did not list the line.

  • Excellent stuff with appropriate music track - but how did the driver get past Norden's starter and Swanage's Inner Homes - both appeared ON?

  • no mate! it was always single track to swanage!

  • Thanks for posting, didn't think I'd ever see the section from Worgret.
