http://mamanatural.com/ What do YOU think? Will the WHO announcement change the way you use your cellphone?

The World Health Organization just came out and said cell phones may cause cancer, listing them in the same category as lead, engine exhaust, and chloroform.

Now, the jury is still out on whether cellphones pose a serious risk. But we do know that they emit radiation, which ain't a good thing.

Here are the top 10 ways to reduce your exposure.

1. Use speakerphone or a headset
Speakerphone is ideal.

Using a headset is better than holding the phone against your face. But radiation still passes through both bluetooth and wired earpieces.

A safer option is an "air tube" earpiece. Instead of using a radiation-conducting wire all the way from phone to brain, these sets deliver sound through a tube.

2. Carry the phone away from your body
The best way to avoid exposure is to hold the cellphone away from the head or body.

Carry your phone in your bag, purse, in a wagon - anywhere except in your pocket or on your belt where soft body tissues can absorb radiation.

3. Texting is better than talking
When you text, your phone only needs to ping the cellphone tower for a moment -- as opposed to a 15 minute phone conversation.

Besides, who doesn't prefer a txt over the dreaded voicemail?

4. Don't call when signal is one bar or less
Fewer bars on your phone mean that it works harder and emits more radiation to get the signal to the tower. Make calls when your signal is strong.

5. Wait for the call to connect before putting it to your ear
cell phones emit the most radiation when they are attempting to connect to cellular towers.

6. keep kids off the phone
Children's developing brains and tissues are thought to be most vulnerable to cellphone radiation. Health authorities in Britain, France, Germany and Russia have all issued warnings against allowing small children to use cellphones for extended periods, if at all.

7. Talk less!
In our age of distraction, sometimes it's nice to just unplug.

8. Hang up when you buckle up
This one is a blow to me, because I love talking on the phone when I drive. But when you're in a moving vehicle like a car or train, your phone repeatedly issues little bursts of radiation to connect with towers as it moves in and out of range.

9. Purchase a phone with a low SAR (Specific Absorption Rate)
In other words, a low radiation cell phone. My beloved iPhone doesn't make the cut, but I think we'll see many more options in the future.

Here's CNET's guide to the 20 lowest-radiation cell phones

10. Use a land line.
Old school, I know. But this is by far the safest way to talk on the phone. I don't know about you, but I'm kind of nostalgic for the days when there was just one family phone.

  • Great tips!! Especially #9... I never knew that!! Thanks for sharing!!

  • Cell phones can easily have zero radiation levels if they had a long enough external antenna and yet no cell phone company is interested in that...

  • @MrSpinneyhorse Yeah I heard based on the current trend and rapid expansion of wireless by 2017 50% of the popullation will be ES,,.. I used to always want the coolest newest cell phones..... But billing for internet is outta control..I'll give the birds and bees and people a break.. use cell phone only when needed

  • HEY MAMA NATURAL.../.. I found a on demand wireless router ... It looks like a sensible sollution ... With out giving up convinience and having a wireless router spewing 24/7 a 2b possible carcinogenic to humans./.. Google search : dr magda havas advice for health canada.. You'll see a swedish patent. pdf... I haven't had time to totally research it but if magda gives it a thumbs up.. It's gotta be good... Happy new year... (yeah my spellin sucks.. we all live in igloos here..lol)

  • Hahaha. I just watched this on my phone. It made my radio crackle (not kidding). Don't u love 4g lte.

  • You did know about the link between thousands birds falling from the sky dead and the wireless industry right? The migratory birds can't Use natural ability to navigate using the earths magnet poles.. This is electrosmog from wi fi hot spots cell phones and antenna's.. Meshed networked smart meters are like a spider web of wireless.. THE WORST. The bees are affected because they have as mechanisim to help them return to the hive. When its fried They lose the hive and die

  • @MamaNaturalBlog You just need wired router.. My desktop is wired internet and my laptop i use wireless .. But the wireless router is radiating my home 24/7.. When I use the laptop 1 or 2 hours a day.. The plan is to get a 2 hour digital timer on the wireless router,, It would shut wi fi off when i'm done.. :) And voice activated baby monitors are better than the constant transmitting ones Dr. Magda Havas has great videos on you tube.. Her live blood analysis is a wake up.. :)

  • I always text rather than calling on my cell--on my plan, texts are free. People are SO reliant on their cells, computers, etc. There was a documentary about it on DocZone (I think?), a Canadian documentary series. I went without a cell for almost a YEAR. So now that I have it back, it's not attached to me 24/7 like it used to be. Sometimes I even forget it--GASP!
