General Sir Richard Dannatt was installed as the 159th Constable of the Tower of London on the 7th October 2009 in a spectacular military ceremony. Here, Historic Royal Palaces' curator Sally Dixon-Smith tells us about some of his predecessors, including the Duke of Wellington and Thomas a Beckett.
I love this one. So informative without any dry and boring recitation, I wish she had had more time to go into Wellington's "reign" as constable.

When Sally mentions about William de Mandeville being "fired" - I hope she means that his position was taken away, and not anything more literal! :)
