A McCormick WD-40 showing off on the Prony Brake at the steam show in Forest, Ontario Canada in 2009. He pulled a very impressive 65.8 Horse Power! Not bad for the world's first diesel powered wheel type tractor. This is a 1939 model.
Nice old bugger there... My Super WD-6 had that same rating during a PTO test many years ago. After finding its best continuous torque/hp rating, they then set the dyno at 70hp and it took almost a minute for the torque to fall below the prior setting. What a smoke show, just like yours. But put that tractor in a damp field, it was almost useless as it would spin out too easily on its 30", albeit weighted, tires.
when i have the money im gonna get one and skid logs with it. He has that pump turned up because when they were first tested they made 48.8 hp on the belt, not 65.8, i wonder what the torque is?

@NathansBackwoods
WD-40 was tested at Nebraska in 1935 @1100 rpm (48.79 Belt HP)
Later tractors were capable of 1200 rpm
The updated TD-40 crawler tested in 1938 @ 1200 rpm (53.46 Belt HP)
The PD-40 power-unit was rated @ 62.5 BHP (rpm not known) in 1941

HP x 5252 / RPM = torque : )
And if you only have the torque and rpm, then torque x rpm / 5252 = HP.

@hypnolobster, How did you figure that out??

@NathansBackwoods
If it's still running at the original max 1200rpm, then 65hp equals 284 ft/lbs of torque.

Although it wasn't the "worlds" first compression fired diesel engine in a wheeled tractor, it was North America's.
Looks like the pump is turned up a bit on that rascal. Sounds great.
