Groovy commercial for what was then American Oil. "The American Scene" personified Madison Avenue's warped perception of youth in the late '60s. They wanted a mod Nehru jacket'ed pop group and what they got was a cheesy "b-b-bah-BAAAH!" style which instead sounds like SCTV's "Five Neat Guys"

I'll bet the twitterpated gas station attendant forgot to check the bass guitarist's oil.

30 cents a gallon, folks - c'mon!!

  • You and You Tube are THE BEST!! I thought I had hallucinated this commercial all these years. No one recalled this, but I remembered that there was something having to do with a girl sitting on top of that sign! We had STANDARD here in Chicagoland, but all I remember is wanting to sit on top of one of those signs too!

  • Holy crap, this commercial rocks!

  • Amoco Oil Co. was the first company to give me a credit card back then it was very hard for a young person to get credit. It was because of Amoco I was later able to get all the major credit cards and eventually get a mortgage on a house

  • TheZepmeister They had a number of photographic techniques that would do the effects. And the sign was probably on the ground.

  • Wiley84 And then BP managed to stagger from one disaster to another.

  • @Wiley84 - In Australia, BP bought out Amoco circa 1982. I thought BP's biggest marketing blunder was to replace the "BP Shield" logo recognised the world over with that silly pinwheel design that says nothing about who it belongs to.

  • The Gas Guy is like HOW THE FUCK THAT CHICK GET UP THERE?!!

  • BP may want to consider bringing the old Amoco name out of mothballs right about now.

  • My parents bought a 1969 Chevy Impala when I was a little kid. We called it the green BOMB because it smoked like a freight train. LOL

  • That chick had some balls to sit on that sign!! They didn't have cgi back then.LOL

  • I wouldn't mind having this song to play at cruise ins! Thanks so much for uploading this! It's so sad that the petroleum industry isn't making quirky, fun little commercials for their products like this anymore.

  • Was the best gas , clear as water. Nothing like the garbage the feds make
