favorite place ever when I was a kid growing up in Philly!

Automats came back during the labor shortages of WWII for a time.

Automats were cool -- something unique. Wish we still had them. Classic Americana.

I think they should bring them back here in the United States.

What super memories! I remember buying lemon pie and coffee back in 64 and I think I didn't spend a dollar. The one I visited was near Times Square, it was in January and there were bums around I guess sheltering from the cold weather, although it was clean and efficient. Was good for a cheap bite. Since then I have visited NYC more than a dozen times. Great city!
