We had an automat where I grew up in suburban Detroit. I loved going there.

favorite place ever when I was a kid growing up in Philly!

Automats came back during the labor shortages of WWII for a time.

Automats were cool -- something unique. Wish we still had them. Classic Americana.

Being 26 and from Metro Detroit, I've never been to an automat. Maybe it's just because I've never been to one, but the concept of an automat always struck me as sort of strange -- seems creepily anonymous. Either way, I'm sure the food was great!

The Blueberry Pie was magical.

@LootableCorpse I think they should bring them back here in the United States.

What super memories! I remember buying lemon pie and coffee back in 64 and I think I didn't spend a dollar. The one I visited was near Times Square, it was in January and there were bums around I guess sheltering from the cold weather, although it was clean and efficient. Was good for a cheap bite. Since then I have visited NYC more than a dozen times. Great city!
