The day finally arrived when local WWII veterans headed to see the new WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. Part of a national program, the local effort was spear-headed by retired Fayette County school teacher, Gail Sparrow and local land surveyor, Mark Buckner. The Fayette Front Page was on hand Wednesday morning before 6 a.m. to talk with the veterans, family members, supporters and volunteers. This was an awesome event. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house-- but there was loads of excitement. Thank you American WWII Veterans!
