This is an piece of music from the movie Close Encounter's Of The Third Kind by John Williams which, in my opinion, is the best he has ever composed.

  • 1:37 to 2:10 is fantastic. I don't know what kind of zone Williams was in during the '70s and early '80s but, man, what an amazing composer, the best ever actually.

  • The way the choir blends in with the rest of the orchestra is amazing. Very moving piece of music. Speilberg and Williams wanted to make the music score a sort of character in this part of the movie and they succeeded beautifully. Speilberg actually cut the scene to fit the score which is rare in films. Genius. The 70's and 80's were great for movies when the likes of these guys came around.

  • I'm glad to see someone else out there thinks this is the best work John Williams ever did. Out of an endless line of masterpieces, this is the one that stands out the most in my mind. A beautiful, magical score all around.

  • Without question. Glad folk are enjoying this piece as much as I do.

  • Thanks for posting! This is indeed a wonderful track.

But then again, just about everything John Williams does is pure gold. The man is a sheer genius.

I love Close Encounters, one of the most underappreciated films ever IMO. Do you have any other tracks?

  • Thanks for the comment. Glad this was appreciated. I love movies and soundtracks and I will be posting more excerpts from my fav movies whenever I can get the time.

  • Incredible movie and soundtrack. This particular part of the soundtrack is based on the melody of "When you wish upon a star" Williams wanted to subtly infuse this melody into the finale as a touch and nod to our youthful curiosity and wonder. It is one of the best movie/music sequences ever constructed bringing the magic and wonder to an epic crescendo and finale! 1:37 to 2:10 is absolutely sublime and a testament to John William's sheer musical GENIUS.

  • They should have a link to this score in the dictionary under the definition of Beautiful.

  • W John Williams!!!!!!

  • Love this movie and love this music,so haunting.Takes me back to my childhood when i first seen this film.

  • Amazing music for sure. I'm actually going to see this movie in a few weeks in a theater. Richard Dreyfuss will be doing a q and a before the movie. Should be cool. Did anyone notice that the main alien that emerges slightly resembles the kid in this movie? I'm wondering if that was done on purpose.
