@79maniac Knives are ok for beginners ; ) jk. Once you learn hawk and trowel the knives get put aside quickly. I have no need for anything over 12" and my routine leaves me plenty of time to coat my butts so I don't worry about hitting it again asap. Unless of course I'm just patching a butt on a reno. Then I'll use hotmud to get in and out quickly.

I use an 18 " blade with 20" pan, mix some hot with compound mud..way faster, plus you can hit it again soon and be done with it.

@msa1985 Just a regular flat trowel but they all have some flex if you push hard enough.
