It was a last ditch effort to save the show sadly.
but I Love patrick o' hearn's synthesized score especially when maggie drowns and dies, very scary and sad.

Love the lush orchestration for this season's credits. Quite unfortunate that they ditched it in the final seasons for that new-agey, synthesized variation.

I love this theme song. Probably the best of all time! Although I never watched the series, I would now if they put in on DVD. Always a big Dallas & Knots Landing fan.

@CapPicard One last thing. Most people don't realize he wrote the theme from "Rocky." Type in: Bill Conti Mix and you can hear him play a beautiful rendition of "Gonna Fly Now" on the piano. It also has links to all his movie scores. He won the Oscar in 1983 for his score to "The Right Stuff." It beat out Michael Gore's AMAZING score for "Terms of Endearment."

@CapPicard Type in: "The COLBYS: Opening Credits: Season 1" and you can hear it. The opening bars are exactly like those of Dynasty and similar to :41 seconds into the 8th season of Falcon Crest. The great Bill Conti can borrow all he wants from his own work and he does it nicely.

Ok, I know I'm past needing therapy, but I so appreciate the arts. The mix on this version's theme is killer. The whole theme is gorgeous, but specifically that jingling before the falcon appears; the entire section from Ladd, to Sparks, to Chao Li Chi -- the horns!!! --to when the wine glasses clink. A masterpiece!

Why don't they make TV shows like this anymore? It's a shame! I remember watching this at my grandma's house, Friday nights on CBS!
