Bryan Arnold of Anchorage, Alaska, educates people about his degenerative disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). During his junior year of high school, he produced this movie about living with DMD. It is now shown in schools statewide and Bryan hopes to extend his advocacy reach beyond Alaska to the rest of the country.

Because of his work, Bryan received a 2009 Yes I Can! Award (self-advocacy category) from the Council for Exceptional Children. The award was presented to him on April 3 at the CEC 2009 Convention & Expo in Seattle.

  • Thanks for sharing man. Both my younger brothers have Beckers MD. Your very courageous for sharing your story.

  • There are different types of MD. i have a disease called mg its a type of muscular dystrophy but its not lethal its intermittent my immune system irritates the motor neurons. What happens is sometimes i feel weak but not really and have trouble releasing my grip its mostly right when i wake up but its not disabling.

  • Thanks for your insight in the great video! You seem like a cool, very brave young man.

  • Your video is so inspirational and a big help. My son is 11 and has Duchenne Muscular Dystophy. It is good to get a view of someone just like him and it helps understand what to expect. Keep up the good work.
