The Democrats' attempts to paint Rush Limbaugh as the head of the Republican party is nothing new. CQ Politics columnist Craig Crawford says it's an old tactic called the 'straw man' strategy.

I really wish pinning Rush with being the leader of the GOP was a strawman tactic, but sadly, when we, the members of the GOP, put more faith in Rush than our ACTUAL party leaders, it becomes easy to see why these Libs believe that Rush is the actual leader of the GOP movement.

The Dems didnt' make him the poster child, the Republicans did. Rush himself wants to play this role. Steele and countless Republican officials cow-towing to him is what makes him the leader. Not the Dems. I think it's great though. Because you're just digging yourself into a hole.
