45 years - Stan Rogers - Home in Halifax - Live

Where the earth shows its bones of wind-broken stone
And the sea and the sky are one
I'm caught out of time, my blood sings with wine
And I'm running naked in the sun
There's God in the trees, I'm weak in the knees
And the sky is a painful blue
I'd like to look around, but Honey, all I see is you.

The summer city lights will soften the night
Till you'd think that the air is clear
And I'm sitting with friends, where forty-five cents
Will buy another glass of beer
He's got something to say, but I'm so far away
That I don't know who I'm talking to
Cause you just walked in the door, and Honey, all I see is you

(CHORUS)
And I just want to hold you closer than I've ever held anyone before
You say you've been twice a wife and you're through with life
Ah, but Honey, what the hell's it for?
After twenty-three years you'd think I could find
A way to let you know somehow
That I want to see your smiling face forty-five years from now.

So alone in the lights on stage every night
I've been reaching out to find a friend
Who knows all the words, sings so she's heard
And knows how all the stories end
Maybe after the show she'll ask me to go
Home with her for a drink or two
Now her smile lights her eyes, but Honey, all I see is you

  • Canada was obviously at the front of the queue when the great songwriters were being handed out.

  • Stan Rogers and Two Gallants have the greatest songs I've ever heard. These songs have meaning. While my friends listen to rap or heavy metal. I'd rather listen to this. Amazing,

  • @ColonelTrainwreck Exactly.

  • I play this song to my wife I love her more than anything in this world

  • I saw his son Nathan perform a two hour set of all Stan tunes last night, and it changed my life. This building (Rebecca Cohn in Halifax) was his favorite place to play, and I grew up hearing this wishing I was alive to have been there. Last night, Nathan granted me a two decade long impossible dream. It was the most incredible thing I've ever seen. If you haven't already, definitely check Nathan's covers of Stan and his original music out, he's just as talented.

  • I think I'm going to go around and start "disliking" some of his videos. I don't think I've seen one video with a single dislike on it. I don't know what that's saying, other than I don't think haters just seek out Stan Rogers songs. Or is he really that damn good? I like to think of it as the latter.

  • love you stan

  • Most amazing and disappointing day I think I can remember in finding great music was when I first discovered Stan Rogers... Amazed at what I heard and disappointed about the hand that life dealt him and his fans....

  • Beautiful

  • What a beautiful song and a fantastic voice. Such a tragedy that he was taken so early - one can only imagine what else he would have written and sung. His voice is so mellow and the words so meaningful.

  • I am 13 now, but in the future THIS WILL BE OUR SONG, person I don't know yet.
