I'm new to fish-keeping, got a pair of small oscars and didn't what I was getting into. They grew big in a few months and I had to change them to 29 gallons. My apartment only allow maximal 30 gallon tank for the worries of water damage. So I'm stuck. The only way to keep the water clean is to over filtration, which is what I did. I used a Fluval 405 and Aqua-tech 20-40 gallons fiters simultaneously. The water is crystal clear, even though Oscars are messy eaters. I have no idea what I'm gonna do when these Oscars out grew the tank. They are fun to feed: they would swim to the top and wag their tails begging for food, and they will jump to bite the fish sticks out of your hand and you hold them close to the surface of the water.
I did the same thing. What did I do? Petsmart took back all the other small fish, so I had 2 oscars in a 30 gallon. What I did was get 3 filters rated for 60 gallons, They lasted for about 6 years.
