Rare video of Nickel Plate Road steam locomotive #587 on a dead-head move through Lexington, KY during the glory days of the Norfolk Southern Steam Program. The year is 1989 and #587 is shown here running through Lexington, KY on what looks like a simple dead-head move. However, someone upstairs must have figured to let #587 earn her time out on the road because she's hauling a short freight!

Sorry for the quality, but this is a rip from a 20+ year old VHS tape.

  • @Strasburg1991 From what I was told they swaped it for a NKP 2-8-2 that's on display in Hammond Indiana.

  • I think I just started getting butterflies I think I am in love, a steamer hauling freight.

  • @dwkcamman611 In the early 90's this whistle developed a serious cracked and required it to be replaced with a different whistle..
