Created as a video response to a poetry lover and a tribute to one of my favorite writers, Hermann Hesse.
~There have been many different translations from the original German. This translation is most simple but retains the essence of what Hesse was trying to convey~

Allein
by Hermann Hesse
Es führen über die Erde
Strassen und Wege viel,
Aber alle haben
Dasselbe Ziel
Du kannst reiten und fahren
Zu zwein und zu drein,
Den letzten Schritt
Mußt du gehen allein.
Drum ist kein Wissen
Noch Können so gut,
Als daß man alles Schwere
Alleine tut.
Alone
by Hermann Hesse
(translated from German by Walter Aue)
Across the Earth are leading
many a road and bend,
yet all are speeding
to the selfsame end.
Be you riding or driving
as twosome or three,
the last of your steps
belongs but to thee.
For skill's not as valid,
nor all that is known,
as tackling the difficult
stuff by your own.
my three greatest german writers, Goethe, Nietzsche, and the culmination of these two.... HERMANN HESSE !

Wow, wonderful! Thank you so much for posting this response; it has a thematic resonance with the Poe.
Hesse's Steppenwolf is my "bible."
I have a book of Hesse's poems, but this one isn't in it, so glad to find it.
You did a great job, lovely music. ^_^
